Kate grew up in an immensely talented household in Plymouth, Devon, UK. She is the youngest
daughter of the 50’s and 60’s broadcast singing star turned actress June Marlow and the late Peter Van Dike, musician, photographer and owner of the legendary Van Dike Club in Plymouth, which in the late 60’ and early 70’s booked everyone who was soon to be anyone from Pink Floyd to David Bowie. Kate is proud to be part of a big family, all of whom have distinguished themselves in their chosen musical/artistic fields.
Kate’s eldest brother Greg Vandike was a prolific singer songwriter, cult dj and in his youth, a successful concert promoter. He was a naturally gifted musician, and over the last 25 years gained a worldwide reputation as one of the UK’s leading record dealers, selling rare records and music memorabilia online long before the advent of ebay. Greg died suddenly in March 2007 at the age of 56. He was a unique character, touched by genius, and will remain an inspirational force in Kate’s life.
Kate’s eldest sister Julia is an award winning watercolour artist who also works as an antique dealer specializing in ceramics and jewellery. Her other siblings are Angelina, who over the last ten years has been a Comedy Promoter and venue owner in Plymouth, and Jefferson, a talented club dj who has worked in Cyprus and the UK since the late 1980’s.
